GREYHAWK provided schedule delay analysis consulting to Triton Structural Concrete, Inc. related to the construction of prefabricated modular building units for New York City’s Phase 3 Beach Front Restoration Project. The units were intended for use as comfort stations, lifeguard stations, or offices following Hurricane Sandy’s destruction of previous facilities. The modules were mounted atop concrete pilings and accessed via aluminum ramps and landings.
When Triton was awarded the $105 million contract with the New York City Department of Design and Construction, Triton subcontracted construction of the prefabricated modular building units at a cost of $14 million. The overall project had a duration of 85 calendar days, which included a mere three weeks for the city’s chosen architect to design the modular units. The city also hired an engineering firm to act as construction manager. After receiving notice to proceed, Triton discovered the design documents were not fully complete, and Triton and its subcontractor incurred additional costs for manufacturing and erection of the modules, now in an even more accelerated mode than planned.
Triton retained GREYHAWK to review the design documents for constructability and identify specific areas that required further clarification prior to construction and to opine on whether any of these would have led to the delays and disruptions experienced during factory construction of the modules. GREYHAWK prepared an expert report and gave testimony in deposition, which led to a favorable settlement prior to trial for Triton.
